Course Description: This course is designed to promote student learning with regard to health issues that affects their immediate and long-term health. Maintaining a healthy way of living requires a balance of physical, mental-emotional, and social well-being.
Health education provides students with knowledge of skills necessary to confront health related issues and make a smooth transition from puberty to adolescence.
Topics:
The following topics are planned to develop a general understanding of personal health.(subject to change)
Beginning a new semester Stress Mental Health Diseases
Empathy/Violence Tobacco Alcohol Drugs
Conflict Resolution Self Esteem Nutrition Sex Ed
Body Systems First Aid, CPR Environmental Community Health
Dangerous Decisions
Grading: Formative 70% Participation, Homework, Quizzes
Summative 30% Tests, Projects
Homework Policy:
All students are expected to complete all of their own homework assignments. Students caught copying others’ work, or letting someone copy their work, will be given a zero on that assignment and will incur disciplinary action according to the QISS discipline protocol.
Students are expected to turn in their homework, assignments and projects by the given due date. Late assignments will be marked down 10% each day until the maximum score possible is 50%. Assignments not turned in will be given a score of 0%.
Classroom Rules:
All students are expected to abide by the following class rules. If a rule is broken the student will be given on
opportunity to correct their behavior with a verbal warning. Upon the second occurrence, the student will get a referral that is logged into focus. Multiple infractions will lead to consequences outside of the classroom as referenced in the student handbook.

Why is it important for people to understand that they can make a difference?
